The Arizona Wildcats have some big basketball games this week.

How big?

If the UA wins its final four home games (to complete an undefeated season at McKale) I don’t see the Cats doing any worse than a tie for the Pac-10 championship.

That big.

If you think playing for a conference crown at home is cool, TWIT-Pac is the place to be.

WSU (17-8 / 7-6) at ARIZONA (21-4 / 10-2)
Cougar coach Ken Bone is saying leading rebounder and shot-blocker DeAngelo Casto is questionable for this game. Nice try. There’s a better chance of me playing in the game than Casto not playing.

Washington (17-7 / 9-4) at ASU (9-15 / 1-11)
I’m trying to spark some hope by reminding myself the Sun Devils took UCLA to overtime, but it’s not working.

UCLA (18-7 / 9-3) at Stanford (13-11 / 6-7)
The back end of your contender doubleheader. The Cardinal beat UW at home. Will Stanford remain Arizona’s Giving Tree?

USC (13-12 / 5-7) at Cal (13-12 / 6-7)
The Bears are 4-1 in Pac-10 home games that don’t go into triple overtime.

Sat. Feb. 19

What’s up with ASU and early games? Do they rent out Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday nights?

OSU (9-15 / 4-9) at Oregon (13-12 / 6-7)
The surprisingly average (in a good way) Ducks have to like their upcoming schedule: OSU and the Bays at home, then at ASU.

Washington at ARIZONA
If the Wildcats avoid the trap against WSU this becomes an elimination game for the preseason favorite. Will the Huskies wave the white flag?

USC at Stanford
Losing to Oregon at home has the Trojans all the way down in 8th place. With the focus on USC’s football program we forget that Kevin O’Neill is dealing with scholarship reductions too.

Sun. Feb. 20

UCLA at Cal
We have to wait an extra day to root against UCLA a second time. Can we book the Bruins on an extra long trip to Alcatraz?

A lot has changed since the last time Arizona faced the Washington schools. The Huskies’ January win at home gave them the inside track in the conference race but now they need road wins just to stay in the game.

This is why Arizona’s road sweep in the Bay Area was such a big deal. This is the reward for bouncing back from that Washington loss to win at WSU. The Cats are positioned to finish off Sean Miller’s first Pac-10 championship in their own gym.

Welcome home.
