B.J. Denker and Ka'Deem Carey

Ka’Deem Carey isn’t the only 2013 Wildcat making history.

It has been a couple weeks so we have two games’ worth of stat and record updates for you.

And for the two guys who make up the Arizona Wildcats backfield, it was a very impressive two games.

Here’s everything that has been updated on the Football Record Book page:

Uniform Combination Database
After the Colorado game the red helmets have evened up their overall record at 2-2. With the Cal win the only white helmet combination left with fewer than two wins is the dreaded all-whites.

Rushing Touchdowns, Game
Ka’Deem Carey scored four times on the ground against Colorado, the ninth time a UA player rushed for at least four TDs in a game. Carey, of course, set the school record of five the previous time he faced CU.

Rushing Touchdowns, Season
Carey became the first Wildcat to make this list twice, and after B.J. Denker’s three-TD day at Cal, it’s the first time two Arizona players have made the top 10 in the same season.

Make sure you look at that chart. Forget quarterbacks, only four Wildcats ever have had more rushing touchdowns in a season than Denker, and one of them lines up next to him in the backfield. This RichRod character is pretty good at getting guys into the end zone.

Rushing Touchdowns, Career
Ka’Deem is now just one Colorado game behind the Arizona record.

Rushing Yards, Career
The 119 yards racked up by Carey versus Colorado pushed him past Mike Bell for fourth. The 152 against Cal allowed him to leap the one and only Cactus Comet, Art Luppino, for third. Ontiwaun Carter is next on the list, 75 yards ahead of Carey.

Rushing Yards, Season
Ka’Deem Carey has now logged the 14th 1,000-yard rushing season in UA history and he’s just the fourth Cat to do it twice.

Rushing Yards by Quarterback, Season
Denker’s 236 rushing yards in the past two games have him just three yards behind Ronnie Veal’s school record for the most rushing yards by a quarterback in a season.

QB Rush Yards is one of those stats you don’t think about until you need it. As Denker was piling up yardage against Colorado people started wondering, Has this ever been done before?

The UA has announced Denker’s 192 as the school record, but it was determined by default and we don’t know whose record he broke:

A New Record: Senior B.J. Denker…established a new school record for rushing yards in a game by a quarterback. There is no such list in the UA records, but considering single-game top-10 charts over the years have never listed a quarterback with 192 yards or more, Denker tops a new category.

Works for me. I don’t have the answer either (I know no Arizona QB has ever rushed for 200 yards in a game) and I’ll have to see what I can dig up for the old record.

Any way you look at it, Denker’s showing against the Buffaloes was one of the greatest statistical performances ever produced by a Wildcat quarterback.

Here’s to another one against UCLA.
